Han Pasado Tantos Años
José María Contursi
So Many Years Have Passed
So many years have passed
Slow and sad...
And today you're here smiling!
Why, if you no longer exist?
It's your image that evokes
All my things...
The grapevine... some tiles...
All my poverty!
A woman's hands
And a patio scented with mint and carnation!
I hear a choir of songs...
Distant voices...
That come closer to me
Circling my window!
Today there is nothing... nothing
Left of that past
That has only left me
With my gray hair
And the desire to return
To a patio scented with mint and carnation.
Once again the reproaches of yesterday
Come back to me
With the nocturnal breeze!
If the nights repeat themselves... see?
With their rains and their closeness...
What do I care about the end
If I always have you here...
And the alcohol that hurts more!
More than time and resentment
And the punishment of the silence of my loneliness!
