Ella En Su Cuaderno
Juana Molina
Her Notebook
He went so far away, and she in her notebook, carries his photo,
and when she opens it, she sees him. She wants to forget him, but still,
she carries his photo, and when she opens it, she sees him.
She looks at others on the street, and at parties she sees others,
she thinks about them for a while, but then she forgets them and
returns to him.
She thinks he thinks of her, even though he doesn’t write to her,
or call her or give her any signs or anything, and she’s still so, so
in love. And he, so far away, in an old jacket,
looks and finds a piece of paper, thinks and thinks about who it could be.
It’s from the one who one night, fell into his arms,
he thinks and thinks and remembers her, crumples it up, writes it down and
throws the paper away.
And she thinks of him, carries his photo, and in her notebook, he’s there,
and when she opens it, she sees him.
She thinks a lot about him, wants to see him again, and in her notebook
she carries his photo, and when she opens it, she sees him.
