Jambalaya
Julie Daraiche
Jambalaya
When the day darkens and veils
When in the sky we see a thousand stars shining
The forest breaks the silence
And we hear the songs rising in rhythm
Jambalaya that all the Indians gather
Jambalaya answers the dancing echo from afar
And suddenly under the waters where everything dances
We see the canoe gliding as it launches
Today's Indians are celebrating
In the night, all the drums repeat to them
And there, as tradition dictates
They pray to the Gods around the fires that light up
Jambalaya that all the Indians gather
Jambalaya answers the dancing echo from afar
And suddenly under the waters where everything dances
We see the canoe gliding as it launches
At midnight when the flames turn red
The Indians make sacrifices to the sky
The chief choosing his companion
While singing towards the sorcerer accompanying him
Jambalaya that all the Indians gather
Jambalaya answers the dancing echo from afar
And suddenly under the waters where everything dances
We see the canoe gliding as it launches
We see the canoe gliding as it launches
