L'hymne des madelinots
Julie Daraiche
The Madelinots' Anthem
I wish I could be a Madelinot
But I can't, I'm afraid of the water
My parents always told me
That the Magdalen Islands are paradise
The sun, the day, and the rain, the night
There, my parents have many friends
I wish I could be a Madelinot
But I can't, I'm afraid of the water
To cross, there's the boat
I get sick when the weather is bad
They had to leave this beautiful piece of land
Not willingly but because of the war
When they talk about it, it makes them cry
To comfort them, I must sing
I wish I could be a Madelinot
But I can't, I'm afraid of the water
To cross, there's the boat
I get sick when the weather is bad
I dream of one day visiting
This beautiful piece of land that my father left me
But I won't be able to go by boat
As you know, I get sick on the water
I wish I could be a Madelinot
But I can't, I'm afraid of the water
To cross, there's the boat
I get sick when the weather is bad
Arriving to disembark
The Madelinots are all on the dock
They look at you with a smile
Arms outstretched to welcome you
I wish I could be a Madelinot
But I can't, I'm afraid of the water
To cross, there's the boat
I get sick when the weather is bad
I wish I could be a Madelinot
But I can't, I'm afraid of the water
