The Last One
I can't mess this up anymore, you're the last one in my life,
and it's the last coin I have left to play.
If I don't win your love, I'll consider it a lost cause,
because life won't give me another chance to win.
I confess, I'm amazed, I didn't expect this at all.
My temples are already showing hints of ivory,
and my neglected yard had stopped dreaming of the rose,
and the miracle happened with the last of April.
You're the last one, and I hope you bring me tenderness,
the kind I've searched for in so many and can't find.
I don't want passion, flings, or adventures anymore...
I want you, my partner, to help me fight.
I don't care about your past, and I'm not here to judge you,
because I've taken my hits from life too.
Besides, there's a reason to love and care for you:
you can tell just by looking that you haven't been loved right.
That's why I said I can't mess this up anymore,
you're the last one to come and sweeten my corner,
and those drops of dew that keep you from looking at me
are clearly telling me that I've reached your heart.
But if bad luck slaps me in the face
like it always threatens to make me fail,
I won't be able to recover from this last failure,
and I'll be like a cricket, dead at the foot of your rosebush.
