Simple Childhood
I grew up in a farmhouse
Surrounded by a porch, forest, and cashew tree
Back then, the battery-powered radio was the ipod
Letter was the email and gourd was the shower
I want my children to have
A simple childhood like mine
We didn't have money
But we had peace and freedom
Surrounded by friends from the countryside
In a field free from fences
And since the past doesn't return
I rewind the tape of the past
My children have to see the rainbow
Contemplate the full moon and the plants growing
And, at every sunset, I worry
Seeing what, on the street, they are not seeing
I want my children to have
A simple childhood like mine
We didn't have money
But we had peace and freedom
Surrounded by friends from the countryside
In a field free from fences
And since the past doesn't return
I rewind the tape of the past
