Si Algún Día Me Toca a Mí
Karen Méndez
If It's My Turn Someday
I don't go out at night, I never walk alone
I shout what I think, I cover myself with clothes
I feel that if they see me they will want me
I prepare the keys five streets before
I walk fast even if it's afternoon
I feel that this fear is already part of me
And if it's my turn someday
The odds are that it is
Don't think I left everything and left
Or that I didn't even defend myself
Never say that I asked for it
Or that my photos made them touch my skin
Uproot the patriarchy from the root
As they uproot us from here
If it's my turn someday (if it's my turn someday)
I'm more afraid than you, for doing the same
I earn less than you and camouflage it in conformism
And still you call my struggle selfishness
If you were in my shoes, if you could imagine maybe
What it feels like to hear footsteps you don't see
If you knew, perhaps the fear it gives
That the one crying on TV is my mom
Can't you see the cons of being a woman
In a world that with all the right believes
In touching us, killing us, burying us alive
Wearing a skirt is a suicidal act
And if it's my turn someday
The odds are that it is
Don't think I left everything and left
Or that I didn't even defend myself
Never say that I asked for it
Or that my photos made them touch my skin
Uproot the patriarchy from the root
As they uproot us from here
I have no weapons, no guns either
To kill an education that kills me if I go alone
I have arguments, I carry it in my body
And no one harasses me if I go with yours
For you I was born fragile and I didn't choose it
And it's not that I am, it's what you do to me
You see me as something and I fear you
It's not a compliment if I tremble
And if it's my turn someday
The odds are that it is
Don't think I left everything and left
Or that I didn't even defend myself
Never say that I asked for it
Or that my photos made them touch my skin
Uproot the patriarchy from the root
As they uproot us from here
If it's my turn someday (if it's my turn someday)
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm
If it's my turn someday
