Im Märzen der Bauer

In March the farmer hitches the little horses,
he tends to his fields and meadows;
he plows the soil, he harrows and sows
and moves his hands early in the morning and late.

The farmer's wife, the maids, they can't rest;
they have work to do in the house and garden.
They dig and rake and sing a song,
they rejoice when everything is green and blooming.

So spring passes by with work,
then the farmer harvests the fragrant hay.
He cuts the grain, then threshes it;
in winter, there are many joyful feasts.
