Yokogao No Taxi Driver
Kingo Hamada
The Sideways Face Taxi Driver
When I passed the interchange
The number of cars in Shingo-machi increased
We briefly passed each other, wiping off our whistles
Just with a sideways face, I understood it was you
Every time summer comes, I borrow a jeep
And fly off to the beach
Taxi driver, does the sky you pass by through the window
Still look blue even now?
I used to toss out cassettes from long ago
Counting the days that have passed
Most of my friends have gotten married
And the favorite stores of old friends are no longer around
The dreams that youth painted in my picture
Will they turn to ashes once they ignite?
I lived like it was a game
Forgetting even to look back
Taxi driver, let me drift as I drive
Hastening the closing of the rainy cab
I turn on the air conditioner lightly
Seeing you off with a back mirror
Taxi driver, does the sky you pass by through the window
Still look blue even now?
I used to toss out cassettes from long ago
Counting the days that have passed
