Abgesang Eines Gefangenen
Konstantin Wecker
The Farewell of a Prisoner
If you find me tomorrow, maybe
Down at the big crossroads of wicked spirits
Or in an arcade, arguing and fat,
Then don’t talk to me, because you might
Get caught being with me.
Look right past me and pick one of those
Good-looking guys who are always in the mix.
Go with him to the bridge’s edge, and I’ll let you
Off the hook. You’ll win, but what does that mean:
I’ll survive.
Then I’ll ride on bright horses
Just up the curve of the earth
And won’t fear being hunted,
And I’ll open the floodgates of the seas:
And the whole land will flood beneath me,
And a whole nation will bleed beneath me.
And it will be good...
And if you want to talk to me tomorrow, maybe
Because you’re feeling cold, then I’ll be gone.
Don’t look for me, because between ash and asphalt
I’ve built my diving board.
Go to your calm friends and win:
I’ll survive.
Then I’ll ride on bright horses
Just up the curve of the earth
And won’t fear being hunted,
And I’ll open the floodgates of the seas:
And the whole land will flood beneath me,
And a whole nation will bleed beneath me.
And it will be good...
