Homestead
Mouse ears remained at the homestead
Easily counted the days of cold
Then the ears bathed in the smoke on the cabin
Under which once was a burnt clearing
Steps rose carefree, memory forgotten
Not even knowing them in the past
Yet for a moment, the mind wanted to know
Where is home now?
On the roof, there's gold, familiar since childhood
Burning for us
There sits the one where sorrows calm
And in whose arms all spring sways
I might run the meadows like a lover's hay
Times still swaying by my side
Far away I hear, echoes of the wind
Slowly raising its head
Nights don't dance if they've lain in June
Still the ice of last winter
Birch twigs brought a scent from the village street
Not every boy can place
Then joy sat on the benches, smoke went through
The straw along the homestead's lands
Steps rose, holding onto those memories
Though the feeling is fleeting at times
Gray thoughts may lurk
But won't be forgotten, even as I walk like them
All land is gold, familiar since childhood
Burning for us
There sits the one where sorrows calm
And in whose arms all spring sways
I might run the meadows like a lover's hay
Times still swaying by my side
It soars into the air, silently wings
As it glides in my blue
It cuts through the crops, once its beauty shines
Until all that's to come is fleeting
There sits the one where sorrows calm
And in whose arms all spring sways
I might run the meadows like a lover's hay
Times still swaying by my side
Far away I hear, echoes of the wind
Slowly raising its head
Nights don't dance if they've lain in June
Still the ice of last winter
