Ni el clavel ni la rosa
Leonardo Favio
Neither the Carnation nor the Rose
[Sometimes I feel that my soul is in shadows
then I lean in, kiss you, and there is light
and lovely, very tender words come out of me
I smile and tell myself: 'This is love'
I remember one afternoon I discovered that your hair
smelled like the flower of a lemon tree
digging into your gaze, I knew there was heaven
and my mouth in silence, murmured a song:
La la la la ra [This is love]
And I sang to the miracle of knowing that you love me
and I shouted to people that the sun resembles you
and that nothing matters to me, neither the carnation nor the rose
and that spring passes without me seeing it
because you encompass everything, even the pleasure I ignore
and the air I breathe is of no relief
if I don't feel the breath of your mouth on mine
and if I see a child, while I wait smoking,
I tell him he is very cute, and in his laughter I see you.
La la la la ra [This is love
yes, yes, this is love]
