My time is ending
The afternoon ends earlier
My world has become small
And I am smaller than I think
The horse is faster
The arm weakens sometimes
I take longer than I want
But I lift my leg without fear
I saddle the gentle horse
But I put the lasso on the tent
If strength is lacking in the arm
I sustain myself in courage
If you remember the past
Life goes back
I'm a tough guy who doesn't give up
That's it
In the spring mornings
When I stop at the rodeo
I'm a boy with a light soul
Flying over the saddle
Horse from my paddock
Puts his head in the bridle
I saddle on the parapet
But I don't tie or handle
If the saddle comes off
It falls on the bench where I sit
Hot water with yerba buena
To drink mate in silence
In this fire where I warm up
I chew over the things I think
I review what I have done
To see what I deserve
When my winter comes
Which whitens the hill for me
It will find me wide open
With a starry heart
Heavy with dreams
That inhabit my chest
And that will live with me
In my new abode
