Chanson De Simon
Les Demoiselles De Rochefort
Simon’s Song
My fiancée thought my name was pretty silly
It shocked her, I think, so, without a word
One night, she left, without a word, without goodbye
My eyes haven’t met hers in ten long years
She taught me in the sweetest moment
That she was waiting for the happy event
That makes a man proud and elevates a woman
But she refused to take the name of Mrs. Lady
Yet she liked me, I called her my muse
But I didn’t know, the poet has his fun
That a name like mine could annoy her so much
I didn’t get it, alas, at the right time
I was a handsome young man, she a young lady
Who accidentally had twins
That I’ve never seen, they lived in boarding school
And never came home in the evening
A few years later, through a mutual friend
I learned that a stranger was asking for her hand
They both left somewhere down in Mexico
To live their love by the Pacific shore
Now I’m alone like a heartbroken lover
I wanted to see the city where I knew her
I settled there, and since then I stay
With my memories, I play hide and seek
