El beso de Ariadna
Les Luthiers
Ariadna's Kiss
(Marcos)
-Whenever Mastropiero had to write
music for money, he was forced
to create mediocre and lifeless pieces.
But when he followed his inspiration,
he never wrote a single note.
An example of his commissioned music is the opera by Mastropiero
"Ariadna and Theseus." In the aria we’ll hear next,
known as "The Invocation of the Kiss,"
from that opera, Theseus calls out to the gods,
to nymphs and muses,
all he longs for is to be kissed by Ariadna.
(Carlos)
-OH!!! (X3) (Out of tune)
Daniel plays the piano really badly.
After they notice the sheets are mixed up.
(Daniel)
-Oh nymphs!
Oh, muses!
Oh, tables!...! muses!
Breathe your uncertain breath on me.
Oh, pain, that abuses my soul,
and has opened my chest with a scream!
Oh, wrath of Zeus!
Oh, furies of Aeolus!
I want a kiss from Ariadna,
Just that.
(Marcos)
-Then... (high pitch)(2X)
lu...lu...lulu...lulu...
lulú... hehehe
Then... after the premiere...
-After the premiere, the producer asked Mastropiero
to fix this part so that the "Invocation of the Kiss"
would have a more direct emotional impact on the audience.
Mastropiero then composed this (high pitch)
This second version.
(Daniel)
- Ariadna, Ariadna,
respond to the moan of my pain.
Your kisses heal me,
Your kisses save me.
Kiss me, Ariadna, my love.
Ernesto Acher, knocked off balance by the clattering of the plates, stumbles five times.
(Marcos)
The producer still not satisfied, demanded Mastropiero
to make it even more accessible.
Johann Sebastian then composed this third and final version.
Ernesto can’t find the trumpet’s mouthpiece for a while.
(Daniel)
-Kiss me, little doll, shalalalá
kiss me, little doll, shalalalá
'cause if you give me a kiss, shalalalá
you’re gonna kiss me, shalalalá
and I’m gonna feel, shalalalá
that you gave me a kiss, shalalaláááááááááááááá
