Maldito Tango
Libertad Lamarque
Cursed Tango
In a happy workshop I worked
I never felt the desire to dance
Until a young man who I fell in love with
Took me one day with him to tango
It was my obsession, the tango of that day
When my soul eagerly surrendered
Because while dancing I felt in my heart
That a sweet illusion was born
The harmony was so smooth
Of that strange melody
That I felt full of joy
My heart dreaming
Just like chasing a hope
That when achieved everything is reached
I spun crazy in that dance
That taught me to love
The fault was of that cursed tango
That my suitor taught me to dance
And then, sinking me in the mud
Made me understand that he was going to leave me
My heart, in pain and sorrow
Sought comfort and calm in the cabaret
But while dancing I felt in my heart
That my illusion, was gone
Listening to that melody
My soul was dying of sorrow
And full of pain I felt
My heart bleeding
How that music dominates
With its captivating cadence
Where will my poor life go
Rolling endlessly
Cursed tango that poisons
With its sweetness when it plays
Cursed tango that fills me
With such bitter gall
He was the cause of my ruin
Cursed tango that fascinates
Oh, tango that kills and dominates
Cursed be that tango
