In Everyone's Mouth
If I whisper in your ear
That fado's been asking me
For no one to sing it
Please, keep it a secret
Because fado's scared
That someone wants to kill it
It's so embarrassed
That it says it’s not even fado
And doubts that fado exists
Because those who take pride
In giving shelter to longing
Can no longer be a fadista
And then fado says
That it can't be happy
In everyone's mouth
And that maybe by my side
It can be fado again
Like it used to be
That's why I tell it
That when I give it shelter
I feel my heart so tired
And one day, maybe I’ll manage
That while crying, fado says
It wants to be fado again
