Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Don't dwell on it.
You'll only understand the power of beauty and youth once they've faded.
But believe me, in twenty years you'll look at those old photos.
And in a way you can't imagine right now.
How many opportunities you had in front of you and how magnificent you looked!
You weren't fat at all like you thought.
Don't worry about the future.
Or worry, but knowing that it helps you as much as chewing gum to solve an algebraic equation.
The real problems of life will surely be things that never crossed your mind.
Those that catch you by surprise at four on a lazy Tuesday afternoon.
Do one thing, every day when you're scared... sing.
Don't be cruel to others' hearts.
Don't tolerate people who are cruel to yours.
Brush your teeth. Don't waste time with envy.
Sometimes you're ahead. Sometimes you fall behind.
The race is long and in the end it's only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults.
If you can really do it, tell me how.
Keep all the old love letters, throw away the old bank statements.
Relax.
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life.
The most interesting people I know, at twenty-two, didn't know what to do with their lives. The most interesting forty-year-olds I know still don't know.
Take a lot of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll get married, maybe not.
Maybe you'll have children, maybe not.
Maybe you'll get divorced at forty.
Maybe you'll dance with her on your seventy-fifth wedding anniversary.
Either way, don't congratulate yourself too much, but don't berate yourself either.
Your choices are bets. Like anyone else's.
Enjoy your body. Use it in every way you can.
Without fear and without caring what people think.
It's the greatest instrument you'll ever have.
Dance. Even if the only place you have to do it is your living room.
Read the instructions, even if you won't follow them.
Don't read beauty magazines. They'll just make you feel awful.
Try to get to know your parents. You never know when they'll be gone forever.
Treat your siblings well. They're the best link to the past and the ones most likely to take care of you in the future.
Realize that friends come and go. But some, the most precious, will stay.
Make an effort to bridge geographical and lifestyle gaps,
because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York for a while, but leave before it hardens you.
Live in California for a while, but leave before it softens you.
Don't mess with your hair, or when you're forty it'll look like an 85-year-old's.
Be cautious in accepting advice, but be patient with those who give it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Giving it is a way of fishing the past out of the forgotten, cleaning it up,
painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But accept the advice... for this time.
