A Sementinha
Liu e Léu
The Little Seed
There in the farmhouse where I lived
On a drizzly morning with cloudy skies
I found a little seed on the ground in the yard
I immediately thought of planting it in wet ground
Time passed quickly and youth
It arrived as night arrives at dusk
A little country girl came to live on the farm
Graceful, beautiful and sweet and in the prime of life
A romance began between me and her
In the cozy shade of a silk-cotton tree
I gave her a rose with great hope
That I picked from a little branch of that rose bush
We scheduled the wedding for the end of the year
For me there was only her and for her there was only me
Just over a week until our building
My promised flower died sick
I pulled out the rose bush in the spring
And I planted it on my beloved's grave
Every afternoon I wet it with my tears
The rose bush withered and ended in nothing
The rain is gone and the sun is burning
He killed my rose bush and dried my tears
It just didn't kill the longing for the little caboclinha
Because I see your image everywhere
That's why I live far from my land
Following the long road of my life
I try to live smiling but, nevertheless
I cry when I remember my beloved dear
Fate is always capricious
It's full of betrayal and crazy dreams
Just like that rose bush and my beloved
I feel like I'm also slowly dying
