Remembering
Remembering the times of childhood
I see the neighborhood where I grew up
The little ranch where I was born
I see the river where I bathed
In the backyard, a big paineira tree
Old friend that I always cherished
I see the shadow and feel nostalgia
My youth, I played a lot there
Its story doesn't leave my memory
It always lives in my imagination
On my shoulder, it was carried
And planted with my hands
I treated it with love and care
It was a satisfaction for me
When one day I saw on its branches
When the first bud opened
When I turned twenty-one
I went with my love
Kneeling in front of the altar
Receiving the Lord's blessing
When I came from the church married
My eyes cried with joy
Passing under the paineira tree
The branches swayed and covered us with flowers
I'm at the end of the road of life
But I ask in my prayer
When death comes to take me
I'll leave the world of illusion
I'll make a request to God
To have compassion on me
May the paineira tree be in bloom
So its flowers can adorn my coffin
