Itaca

Ithaca
When you set out on the journey to Ithaca,
you must pray that the road is long,
full of adventures, full of knowledge.
You must pray that the road is long,
that the mornings are many
when you will enter ports
you've never seen before,
and go to cities
to learn from those who know.
You must reach there, it is your destiny,
but do not rush the voyage at all.
It is better for it to last many years,
so that you are old by the time you reach the island,
rich with all you have gained
along the way, without expecting
Ithaca to give you more riches.
Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage,
without her you would not have set out.
And if you find her poor, Itaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you will understand what these Ithacas mean.
Further, you must go further
from the fallen trees that now imprison you,
and when you have overcome them
remember not to stop.
Further, always go further,
further from today that now binds you.
And when you are freed
start the new steps again.
Further, always much further,
further from tomorrow that is now approaching.
And when you think you have arrived,
know how to find new paths.
Further, always much further,
further from tomorrow that is now approaching,
and when you are freed,
remember not to stop (2)
Safe journey for the warriors
who are faithful to their people,
may the God of the winds favor
the sail of their ship,
and despite their old battles
may they find pleasure in the most loving bodies.
Fill nets with beloved stars
full of adventures,
full of knowledge.
Safe journey for the warriors
if they are faithful to their people,
may the sail of their ship
be favored by the God of the winds,
and despite their old battles
may love fill their generous bodies,
may they find the paths of old desires,
full of adventures,
full of knowledge.
