L'estaca

The Stake
Grandpa Siset talked to me
early in the morning at the gate
while we waited for the Sun
and watched the carts go by.
Siset, don't you see the stake
where we are all tied?
If we can't get rid of it
we will never be able to walk!
If we all pull, it will fall
can't last long,
surely it falls,
falls, falls,
must be very rotten by now.
If you pull hard from here,
and I pull hard from there
surely it falls,
falls, falls,
and we can free ourselves.
But Siset, it's been a long time,
my hands are getting scraped,
and when my strength fades
it becomes wider and bigger.
I know it's rotten for sure
but Siset weighs so much,
that sometimes my strength forgets me.
Tell me its song again!
Grandpa Siset doesn't say anything anymore,
bad wind took him away,
who knows where
and I under the gate.
And while the new boys pass by
I stretch my neck to sing
the last song that Siset
the last one they taught.
