The people from La Rioja gather
at Vargas Well;
Varela leads them,
firm in battles.
Against the people from Santiago del Estero,
with great courage, they will fight;
and Don Manuel Taboada
raises his sword: it shines.

Varela attacks,
with great force:
slaughtering,
with sword and lance.
Cries are heard,
in the thunder of the charge
and the people from Santiago del Estero
under Taboada are losing ground.
