El Casamiento
Los Chalchaleros
The Wedding
Knocking from door to door,
Mrs. Filomena was going
inviting friends
to the girl's wedding.
The girl was forty years old:
she had a beard and mustache.
The groom was a shorty,
who met her at night.
He gave her ten hens
and a crooked and mischievous rooster:
the godfather who, at night,
visited the henhouse.
When the party started
they played the 'chacarera'
and a limping man who danced it
raised dust.
The old lady, discreetly,
was counting the guests.
Her husband, who was one-eyed,
was watching over the gifts.
The groom very cocky,
hair slicked back with gel.
Seeing him, a countryman said:
-'so tiny and he struts'.
As dawn approached,
everyone was drunk
and a dog was licking
the head of a bald man.
The 'chacarera' continued:
Zapata was playing the guitar
and the limping man dancing it
his legs got fixed.
