San Martín
Los Chalchaleros
San Martin
(Cueca)
San Martin, sower of freedoms,
propeller of our great Continent,
defender of most holy ideals,
he was our greatest brave.
Still heard is the tolling of the bells
that Fray Luis Beltran, the Cuyano, cast,
demonstrating loyalty to his brothers.
He left Plumerillo
and, already in the immense Cordillera,
he crossed the Paramillos
through Uspallata and Picheuta:
Condor of the Cuyanos
was the illustrious American.
The surprise that was Cancha Rayada,
was valiantly fought by Las Heras,
who fought in the immortal fields
and saved our flag in Maipu.
San Martin, may your name be eternal
as eternal as the Andean snows;
you are the great protector of my Argentina.
