Bearded, sullen, fierce,
the battalions return,
they are the last warriors,
of the Chilean army.
The cold and the Andean wind,
had as sentinels,
the cold watched over their dreams,
the wind guarded the Sierra.

Five years of campaign,
were thinning their ranks
and in the midst of the mountains,
are a thousand lost crosses.
Standing guard in the Sierra,
surrounded by heaps,
they were at the end of the war,
forgotten battalions.

Forgotten battalions,
with tattered flags,
veterans sustained,
by their stubborn hearts.
Also the beloved faces,
that once encouraged them,
time, battles, and oblivion,
erased them from their souls.
