Futuro?
Los de Marras
Future?
My dad is on a hunger strike
Because one day he was left
Without a job and without money
And a letter arrived at our house
With words I don't understand
My mom no longer goes to the supermarket
Now she stares at the fridge
While gritting her teeth
And she hugs me in her arms
Whispering in my ear
Today we won't have breakfast either
My parents have changed
They're not the same
They cry when I'm not looking
Their kisses taste like sorrow
And they talk about grown-up things at night
When they think my brother and I are asleep
(That my brother and I are asleep)
I'll sell my dolls
My marbles and we'll move forward
I'll take out my savings from my piggy bank
So that we lack nothing
I know I'm only ten years old
But I have to do something
I know this is very hard
But I am the future
My dad gets up very early
And smokes a thousand cigarettes
Holding onto a bottle
And he sits me between his legs
He caresses me and says
Go to school by yourselves
My mom no longer puts on makeup
Or looks in the mirror
She says she's ashamed
That she messed up
And all I can think about
Is if fairies eat ice cream
My parents have changed
They're not the same
They don't laugh anymore, they don't play
They only talk about serious things
And for me, it's an adventure
To all go live at grandma's house
I'll sell my dolls
My marbles and we'll move forward
I'll take out my savings from my piggy bank
So that we lack nothing
I know I'm only ten years old
But I have to do something
I know this is very hard
But I am the future
