El Perro Viejo
Los Espíritus
The Old Dog
A train car fills up
At the station
A passerby goes by
Whistling a song
Lights a cigarette
Waiting for the train
With his hand in his pocket
There standing on the platform
With a worn-out face
And black eyes
Of an old dog
Looking at the street
Through the window
The smoke rises from the slum
Of La Paternal
And he seems bored
Watching and watching
And watching for so long
People passing by
With a wet nose
And the paranoia
Of an old dog
A raggedy ass
Crossed my path
And stared at me
Until it disappeared
And I rolled a cigarette
Thinking
Every minute is one less
I want to fall in love
Ma'am, do you have a light?
I kept staring at her
Like an old dog
There's a smell of smoke
There's a smell of train
There's a smell of rain
And of poverty too
A lightning bolt crosses the sky
Of La Paternal
And it sounds to me like the cry
Of a muzzled dog
Still growling
Barking lying down
Like an old dog
