La Algarrobera
Los Hermanos Toledo
The Algarrobera
In the hills of Santiago, among the carob trees
I found this chacarera for the time of the carnivals
They call it: The Algarrobera, who knows the reasons why
I say it’s because of the joy that lifts our hearts high
It’s a custom back in my hometown during the carnival days
To dance until the dawn breaks, damn, what beautiful songs play
At the Santiago parties, this chacarera’s the dance
With accordion, guitar, and drum, they call it: The Algarrobera
While dancing this chacarera, an old lady remarked
I’m getting worn out, comadre, with this fresh joy in my heart
Another old man in his own way, dancing all out of sync
Muttering softly, what a fierce beat, what a stomp, don’t you think?
White and black carob, full of honey and sweet delight
Joy in the dance parties, good for keeping it tight
At the Santiago parties, this chacarera’s the dance
With accordion, guitar, and drum, they call it: The Algarrobera
