La Carta
Los Miserables
The Letter
They sent me a letter
In the early mail,
In that letter they say
That my brother got locked up,
And without mercy, in cuffs,
They dragged him down the street.
The letter states the reason
For what Roberto did,
Supporting the strike
That had already been settled.
If that's a reason,
Then I’m going down too, sarge.
Here I am so far away
Waiting for some news,
The letter tells me
That there’s no justice in my land,
The hungry are asking for bread,
The military's bothering them.
Have you ever seen such insolence,
Barbarism and treachery,
To show up with a gun
And kill in cold blood
Someone who can’t defend themselves
With their hands completely empty.
The letter they sent me
Asks for a reply,
I ask that it spreads
Throughout the whole population,
That the lion is bloodthirsty
In every generation.
Luckily, I have my guitar
And I’ve got my voice,
I also have nine brothers
Besides the one in chains,
All revolutionary,
With the grace of my God.
