Cuatro Soldaditos
Los Rebujitos
Four Little Soldiers
Green, green, green May, green is the spring
Four are the little soldiers who march off to war
Some laugh, others sing, and others carry much sorrow
But the smallest of all is the one who carries the most sorrow
The captain asks him, why do you carry so much sorrow
Is it for your mother or father, or because you're going to war
It's neither for my mother nor father, nor because I'm going to war
It's for a young girl I left behind
He puts his hand in his pocket, and takes out a photo of her
Even the captain himself had fallen in love with her
Take your white horse, and go with your maiden
For one less soldier, we won't lose the war
The captain asks him, why do you carry so much sorrow
Is it for your mother or father, or because you're going to war
It's neither for my mother nor father, nor because I'm going to war
It's for a young girl I left behind
Open the door, my dear, open the door, maiden
For your lovely face has saved me from the war
She comes out to meet him, with tears on her face
The man she loved the most has been saved from the war
The captain asks him, why do you carry so much sorrow
Is it for your mother or father, or because you're going to war
It's neither for my mother nor father, nor because I'm going to war
It's for a young girl I left behind
Green, green, green May, green is the spring
Four are the little soldiers who march off to war
