The Graduate

I always wanted to study
And be someone in life
To be that exemplary son
Pride of the family
An honor for my town
And for my beloved homeland.

But it has been of no use
For me to have graduated
Like all my colleagues
We walk everywhere
In search of a good job
And unable to find one.

The degree is not enough
When I approach the table
I feel so miserable
That I am filled with sadness
To have a career
And live in poverty.

*I'm not afraid of poverty
Because I have always been poor
I have fought to improve myself for a better future
That's why I went to school
To practice my career but
The result is that I work in whatever
That's why my blood boils
And this degree I have
Has only served me for two things
To wipe away my sweat
And to dry my tears*

My parents always dreamed
That one day I would graduate
They sacrificed so much
To pay for my education
Now I don't know how
To settle this debt.

I know it's not a remedy
But I feel a great relief
Sometimes I have my drinks
To calm my torment
Only asleep and drunk
I forget the pain.

My town is a great treasure
And I love it with all my soul
But the crisis and hunger
Make me lose my calm
It's not fair that the graduate
Is broke and jobless.
