La Carta
Los Tigres del Norte
The Letter
This is the story of a boy
Who one day, after one of our concerts
Approached us and said
I am a fan of yours, your life is very different from mine
You sing your songs and I work carrying bricks
But when I hear you sing, I think we are the same
Excuse the boldness
But you who come and go
Maybe you can help me
And wiping a tear from his eye
And reaching into his pocket
This is what he told us
Take this letter to my mom
Maybe soon you will sing in my town
I have no acquaintances or relatives
I know you will understand
My boldness
My little town is colonial and picturesque
Its streets are dirt, no cement
In the square there is an image of Saint Jude
To whom I entrusted myself
When I came on this adventure
On the main street is your house
It is different from all the others
Now it has a concrete roof
It is painted blue
Almost like the sky itself
Indeed, it was written in destiny that our music would follow that path
And reach that town
It was very easy to locate that house
Which was the saddest and poorest of all
An old lady opened the door for me
Barely able to stand on her feet
And with a certain uncertainty
And an old look in her eyes, she said: Tell me sir
Ma'am, good afternoon, my respect
Your son gave me something for you
It is a letter which I deliver here
I have fulfilled my promise
And I will continue my journey
I turned around and the lady interrupted
Excuse the inconvenience and looked at me
I cannot read because I never went to school
I know you will understand
Please read it to me
Of course ma'am, with pleasure

This is what that letter said
Dear mother, I don't know where to start
I will start by saying that I miss you
I miss the tortillas you used to make
I miss your scolding
I miss your food
Here my life is always a routine
I have two jobs and sometimes I can't finish them
But it doesn't matter if I work myself to death
So that you don't lack anything
So that you don't struggle
Precisely, today marks 13 years
Since that afternoon I came to the States
Your blessings did have an effect
Thank my old man
His advice did work
Dear mother, my dear little old lady
I hope to be there on the day of farewell
I promise you, I will return soon
To fulfill my dream
Of hugging each other again
