El Negro de San Martín
Los Trovadores de Cuyo
The Black Man of San Martín
The sea roars against the walls of the Torreón
That Felipe ordered to build in Callao
And in the shadows, a silhouette is seen crossing
On the rooftop of that fort, a vision
It's the silhouette of Falucho, the faithful black man
Who is watching over his Patriotic Flag
While unaware that just a few meters away
His comrades are plotting a betrayal
And as the Sun shines in Lima
The black man looks at his flag
While, through the stairs
A troop approaches
He turns around in front of the commotion
Of that confused patrol
And with just one look
He senses the cruel plot
He looks straight at those Creoles
Who yesterday
Like him fought tirelessly until victory
In Chacabuco; in San Lorenzo and in Maipú
Next to the hero from Yapeyú
And upon realizing that one of them
Finally arrives and orders to lower his flag
Falucho says: To be so false and vile
God did not place a heart in this black man
Die... Let the insolent one die
The treacherous mob shouts
And a loud discharge
Hits the brave man's chest
And nearing his end
Seeing his Flag on the ground
He kisses it for the last time
The Black Man of San Martín
