Meu Reino Encantado

My Enchanted Kingdom
I was born in a happy place
Far away from the town
That’s where I lived for many years
With mom, dad, and my siblings
Our house was a big house
On the slope of a hill
A pen to keep the calves
And next to it, a big barn
In the yard, there was a wood oven
And an orchard where the birds sang
A shed to store the mortar
And the tools that dad used
In the morning, I’d go to the granary
Grab an ear of corn
Shell it and throw it on the ground
In no time, the chickens gathered
Our ox cart was well-kept
Four pairs of top-notch oxen
Four yokes, sixteen chains
Leaning against the fig tree
Every Saturday, I’d go to the village
To buy supplies for the whole week
Dad would be yelling at the oxen
While I opened the gates in front
Our little farm was surrounded
By the big ranches all around
We had to sell the property
To a big cattle rancher
And we moved to the big city
Nostalgia left with me
The farmland turned into a colony
And my enchanted kingdom came to an end
Today, only three things remain
That time hasn’t destroyed yet
The old, collapsed shack
And the fig tree waving at me
And lastly, it marked nostalgia
For a good time that’s long gone
Forgotten under the fig tree
Our old ox cart
