A Sementinha
Lourenço e Lourival
The Little Seed
There in the farm house where I lived
On a drizzly morning with cloudy skies
I found a little seed on the ground
I immediately thought of planting it in the wet soil
Time passed quickly and youth
Arrived like nightfall at dusk
A country girl came to live on the farm, graceful, beautiful, sweet and in the prime of life
A romance began between her and me
In the cozy shade of a paineira tree
I gave her a rose with much hope
That I picked from a little branch of that rosebush
We set the wedding for the end of the year
For me, she was the only one and for her, only me
Just over a week before our idyll
My promised flower fell ill and died
I uprooted the rose bush in the spring
And planted it on my beloved's grave
Every afternoon I watered it with my tears
The rosebush withered and came to nothing
The rain went away and the scorching sun
Killed my rosebush and dried my tears
It didn't kill the memory of the country girl
As I see her image everywhere
That's why I live far from my land
Following the long road of my life
I try to live smiling but nevertheless
I cry when I remember my beloved
Destiny as always is capricious
Full of betrayals and crazy dreams
Just like that rosebush and my beloved
I feel like I'm also slowly fading away
