Amanecer Boricano
Lucecita Benítez
Boricano Dawn
I am the morning light
that illuminates new paths,
That floods the mountains,
the rural paths.
I am the fruit of the future,
the seed of tomorrow,
Sown in pure
manure of my Boricuan land.
I am a dream fisherman,
seeking a sea of foam,
of seashells and sands,
of mermaids and moons,
of stars and horizons
my fortune is made,
I am a navigating seagull and astronaut of the mist.
I am the yeast of bread
that feeds the hope
of the Puerto Rican man,
of the awakening of my homeland.
I bring Boricuan blood,
I am a son of the palm tree,
of the fields and rivers
and the singing of the coqui,
of valleys and coffee plantations, of sugar cane, sugar, and pineapple,
of guava and mampostéales,
of tembleque and mavi.
"chorus"
If I had not been born in the land where I was born,
I would regret not having been born there...
