Gesù Bambino
Lucio Dalla
Baby Jesus
He said he was a handsome man and he came,
He came from the sea...
He spoke another language though,
He knew how to love.
And that day he took my mother,
On a beautiful meadow... ah,
The sweetest hour,
Before being killed.
So she remained alone in the room,
The room by the port...
With the only dress,
Every day shorter.
And although she didn't know the name,
Nor the country...
She recognized me immediately, (she waited for me like a gift of love)
Right in the last month. (since the first month)
She turned sixteen,
That day my mom...
The tavern cloths
She sang as a lullaby.
And holding me close, she knew, she knew,
She knew of the sea...
The Madonna played, (played at being a woman)
With the baby to swaddle.
And maybe it was for fun,
Or maybe for love...
That she wanted to call me,
Like our Lord.
Of her short life, the memory,
The biggest memory...
It's all in this name
That I carry with me.
And even now while I curse and drink wine... (and even now while I play cards and drink wine)
For the thieves and the whores, I am, (for the people of the port I am called)
Baby Jesus.
And even now while I curse and drink wine... (and even now while I play cards and drink wine)
For the thieves and the whores, I am, (for the people of the port I am called)
Baby Jesus.
