Com'è Profondo Il Mare
Lucio Dalla
How Deep Is the Sea
We are us, we are many
We hide at night
For fear of drivers
Of typists
We are black cats
We are pessimists
We are bad thoughts
And we have nothing to eat
How deep is the sea
How deep is the sea
Dad, who was a great hunter
Of quails and pheasants
Chase away these flies
That don't let me sleep
That make me angry
How deep is the sea
How deep is the sea
It's useless
There's no more work
There's no more dignity
God or whoever
Is trying to divide us
To harm us
To make us drown
How deep is the sea
How deep is the sea
With the force of blackmail
The man became someone
He even resurrected the dead
Opened prisons
Stopped six trains
With their respective cars
He briefly raised the poor
To a difficult role to maintain
Then let him fall
To cry and scream
Alone in the middle of the sea
How deep is the sea
Then the scream alone
Became a drum
And the poor man like lightning
In the safe sky
Started a war
To conquer
That piece of land
That his big heart
Had to cultivate
How deep is the sea
How deep is the sea
But the land
Was taken away from him
Including what was left on him
He was thrown
Into a palace, into a ditch
I don't remember well
Then a story of chains
Beatings
And experimental surgery
How deep is the sea
How deep is the sea
Meanwhile a mystic
Maybe an aviator
Invented emotion
And reconciled everyone
The beautiful with the ugly
With some damage to the ugly
Who were given
A piece of mirror
So they could look at themselves
How deep is the sea
How deep is the sea
Meanwhile the fish
From which we all descend
Curiously witnessed
The collective drama
Of this world
Which undoubtedly
Must have seemed bad to them
And they began to think
In their vast sea
How deep is the sea
In their vast sea
How deep is the sea
It's clear
That thought is annoying
Even if the one who thinks
Is silent as a fish
Indeed a fish
And as a fish is hard to stop
Because the sea protects it
How deep is the sea
Sure
Those in charge
Are not willing to make poetic distinctions
Thought like the ocean
You can't stop it
You can't fence it
That's why they're burning the sea
That's why they're killing the sea
That's why they're humiliating the sea
That's why they're bending the sea
