Se Io Fossi Un Angelo
Lucio Dalla
If I Were an Angel
Who knows what I would do
Tall, blond, invisible
How beautiful I would be
And how brave I would be
Using myself to the fullest
It's clear that I would fly
Free gypsy
I would travel the whole world
I would go to Afghanistan
And further down to South Africa
To talk to America
And if they don't shoot me down
I would even talk to the Russians
Angel if I were an angel
I would fix them with a biblical gaze
I'll give you two hours, two hours at most
Then I would piss on your heads
On your beautiful missile factories
If I were an angel, I wouldn't be in processions
In the nativity scene boxes
I would sit smoking a Marlboro
In the sweet coolness of the hedges
I would be a good angel, I would talk to God
I would obey Him loving Him in my own way
I would talk to Him in my own way and I would say
'What do you want from me'
'The powerful ones, what scoundrels, and what do you do, forgive them'
'But then you're wrong too'
But then I wouldn't talk anymore
An angel I wouldn't be anymore an angel
If they kick me down with a kick
At most I would be a devil
And frankly, I don't like that
But then what is hell
Apart from the heat it gives
It's not so different from here
Because I feel that, I'm sure that
I know that angels are millions of millions
And you don't see them in the skies but among men
They are the poorest and the loneliest
Those caught in the nets
And if another God were born among men
I would obey Him loving Him in my own way
In my own way...
