Little Donkey
Little donkey
The dawn has not yet broken when you start your journey
and head to the market to carry mba'e repy
you pay no attention to the rain nor do you care about the frost
only the pain of a mba'asy can await you
The hardships have toughened your existence day by day
they have armed your perennial pyhare with courage
and have given you basic lessons in patience
so that in misfortune you can remain strong
And trotting little donkey from your humble tapýï
between mountains and meadows a hundred paths intertwine
with your saddlebags full of oranges and mandi'o
you walk the streets of Asunción distributing ka'avo
For the hard daily bread you walk leagues and leagues
on the back of the little donkey that you treat as your companion
as you cross the streets, you leave behind a piece of your working life
your days are so alike that you don't have a Sunday
of pleasures or joys in peaceful rest
Paraguayan little donkey, I distinguish you in my verses
and embrace you in my stanzas with fervent kunu'u
