El Extranjero
Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy
The Foreigner
A boat in the harbor awaits me
I don't know where it will take me
I'm not seeking greatness
I just want to heal this sadness
I leave and don't think about coming back
I'm not sad about what I leave behind
I just know that what's left for me
I can carry in a single pocket
I feel at home in America
In old places, I wish to die
The same happens to me with Africa
Asilah, Essaouira, and the Rif
But wherever I go
they call me the foreigner
wherever I am
I feel like a foreigner
Also, a stranger in my own land
even though I truly love it
but my heart advises me
nationalisms, how scary they are!
No homeland, no flag
no race, no condition
no limits, no borders
I am a foreigner
But wherever I go
they call me the foreigner
wherever I am
I feel like a foreigner
But wherever I go
they call me the foreigner
wherever I am
I feel like a foreigner
