For you I left my mother and left her alone
without even worrying if she had something to eat
until one night I dreamed she was dead

I went crazy looking for her
but I couldn't find her anymore

I knew that my poor old lady
not knowing what to do anymore
went from door to door to ask
for something to eat
in a corner of a church
dead from the cold perhaps
without uttering a single complaint
she spent all her old age

with one of the neighbors
she left me a note
that, blurred by tears,
could hardly be read

my dear son it said
be good to the woman
who took you from my side
I have already forgiven her

and if God gives you a child
talk to him a lot about me
tell him not to abandon you
as you did to me
if he has dark eyes
and looks like you
give him the kiss that your mother
left before dying
