Alma do Sertão
Luiz Gonzaga
Soul of the Backlands
Oh, how beautiful it is for us to see
In the middle of the forest, the sunrise
When it dawns
It almost seems like the backlands
With joy
Is bidding farewell to the darkness
And the birds
In a flock, so happy
Reach the sky
In a big hug to everyone
When it dawns
The sun appears in its splendor
Drying the dew
Turning the field into a vast flower
The countryman goes out
Carrying on his shoulder, the hoe
He goes to the fields
From where he earns his bread
When it dawns
At the awakening of a new day
Nature
Brings joy to the forest
And everything changes
With the arrival of this hour
Everyone singing
In praise of the new dawn
