Chemistry
There is an ancient Japanese proverb
That says each person has three faces
The first is the one you show to the world
The second the one you let your friends, family, or partner see
And the third, the face you never show anyone
And reflects most faithfully who you really are
It's called: The three Japanese masks
And I'm not sure if it's truly
An ancient proverb or just another internet rumor
But I think it makes a lot of sense
Humans are huge fans of the first mask
And we undoubtedly live in the golden age to flaunt it
We are addicted to the best photo, the best angle
The filter that makes us look younger
The deepest phrase
We are hooked 24 hours a day
Seeking to impress and feel accepted
By thousands of strangers who don't matter to us
Maybe to not feel lonely
For our own benefit, out of fear
To feel like we belong to something
I don't know
The second mask is a bit more complicated
Partly, it's ourselves, of course
Pretending to be someone we're not, all day
With all the people we meet
Would be totally impossible
However
Only a percentage of our real self passes through that filter
Enough to fit into society, to maintain sanity
And for the people who matter to us
And the world around us
Not to think we're completely crazy
And the third
That version of yourself that only you know
I don't think I need to explain, right?
Those things we think but don't say
Those we do in private or when no one can see us
Those we hide in secret places
Where no one can find them or those we keep password-protected
Those things that, undoubtedly, we would do if laws didn't exist
Because even the purest soul
Has disgustingly locked secrets
And neither you nor I are exceptions
We are like a flashy and majestic skyscraper
Built on paper foundations
Here is the most hypocritical animal on Earth
The only one who has the gift of understanding where it comes from
But doesn't have the courage to face it
I don't know why I'm surprised, after all
We are just poor monkeys
In search of our next dose of pleasure and happiness
We are nothing more than poor slaves
At the mercy of what chemistry dictates
