Every time we set out on the road to Emmaus
In the sincere heart-to-heart dialogue
When we seek meaning in the world and its pain
When we open our eyes and look around
In the deep question, in the intimate friendship
Even if we don't recognize you, you are present

Every time we decide to listen and share
Welcoming the stranger without judging or asking
In opening our lives and inviting others
To sit at our table and eat our bread
When the heart lights up because it has known how to give

Open, Lord, our eyes, open our hearts
Also open our hands, strengthen our feet
As we listen to your word, while breaking bread
That life and Eucharist are just one unity
When we walk together on the road to Emmaus
