Um Homem Fora do Tempo
Mano Lima
A Man Out of Time
It's in the smoke that you recognize a tough guy
It's in this world that I want to show who I am
If it's in war that a soldier earns a name
Because it was in war that the gaucho was raised
There's the gaucho who talks the talk
But there's also the one who is true at heart
If the core is in the throat, it's made of ironwood
That's why I shout and, when I sing, I sustain myself
The man strays from his principles
And the world heads towards wickedness
If I live fighting alone, it's because I'm a ranch hand
And I carry as inheritance respect and manliness
When morality gives in, man reaches his own end
But beneath the weeds lies the best of the grass
Under my hat there's a native warrior fighting within me
Already trampled by a horse
I come well cut
And I won't give up
Only with the hilt of the dagger
My body is a sharpening stone
From so much fighting!
Barman, give me a sip
To clear my vision
And a handful of bullets
To fix the speech of my nag
What would life be worth
If I were to shy away from danger?
What's the value of freedom
For someone who's a coward and doesn't know how to fight?
A man the world doesn't take
When there's blood in his veins
I come from the land
Where the bull bellows and the tough guy fights
Friend, pour another drink
And know why I fought
It's because men changed
And softened up, and I didn't follow
