Claveles de Granada

Carnations of Granada
The carnations of Granada
are the sighs that God breathed.
The carnations of Granada
are the rubies that He wept.
At night the stars
want to take them away,
and the moon, ever watchful,
won't leave.
In the towers of the Alhambra
every night you can see
with a silver shawl
and a carnation.
The carnations of Granada
are the porcelain He left behind.
The carnations of Granada
were ignited by the sun.
In their red and yellow
lies their dignity,
because they form
the national flag.
And with them stand united
every good Spaniard,
defending with their life
their colors.
How wonderful
are the stems of the carnation,
because they resemble
the woman.
To be a woman from Spain
is to be a carnation at the same time.
The woman from Spain
has her soul filled with carnations,
for being a woman.
