Mi Dolor
Manuel Meaños
My Pain
I return from distant lands where yesterday
I went to seek forgetfulness for my pain,
Consolation for the soul that suffered, believing
In the deceptions and promises of love.
Heading towards oblivion, which is a balm for suffering,
I departed carrying in my bitterness
The cruel memory of the happiness
That I once believed to live with you.
I
Was a slave to your heart
And I yielded to your whims
And you repaid me with betrayal.
Today, my soul healed from its wound,
I think I will never return
To beg for your love.
Because where I went
To forget my sorrows
I experienced love
Delights to the point of intoxication.
My pain was healed.
My passion only gave
The senses to love,
But my soul kept
Its purity intact
And soon it managed
To forget its sorrows.
But today I saw you pass by my side.
My heart beat so fast
That wound I thought healed
In your sight suddenly reopened,
For neither caresses nor forgetfulness were enough
To calm my pain.
Once again I suffer for being loved
And today, like back then, I am a slave to your love.
