El Breve Espacio
Manuel Mijares
The Brief Space
There are still traces of moisture
Their scents already fill my loneliness
In bed, their silhouette
Is drawn like a promise
To fill the brief space where they are not
I still don't know if they will come back
No one knows what they will do the next day
They break all my schemes
They don't confess any sorrow
They don't ask for anything in return for what they give
They can be violent and tender
They don't speak of eternal unions
But they give themselves as if there was only one day to love
They don't share a gathering
But they like the song
That engages their thoughts
I still haven't asked: will you stay?
I fear the response of never
I prefer it to be shared
Before emptying my life
It's not perfect but it gets close
To what I... Simply dreamed
